About MARB
MARB was constituted under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 to independently assess and rate medical institutions, replacing the earlier college-inspection process carried out by the Medical Council of India.
Its assessments determine whether a college's permission is renewed, whether its recognised seat count can increase, and whether new postgraduate seats can be added — based purely on verified infrastructure and faculty data.
Each cycle follows a structured sequence, from data submission through to the final rating that determines the coming year's permission and seat matrix.
MARB assessments combine remote data verification with on-site visits by an inspection team, ensuring ratings reflect real, current capacity rather than static paperwork.
The college submits infrastructure, faculty, and hospital data through the NMC's online portal ahead of the assessment window.
A MARB team visits the campus and hospital to verify facilities, faculty presence, and patient load against submitted data.
Any gaps identified are flagged for correction, with a defined window for the college to respond before final rating.
MARB issues its recommendation to the NMC, which determines permission renewal and the confirmed seat matrix for the year.
